Is the Skilled-Trade Industry Right For Me?

Looking toward life after high school can be a little overwhelming at times. With many decisions to make and countless avenues to choose from, there’s no one “right or wrong” way to move forward. From going straight into the workforce, attending a university, enrolling in a trade school, or other academic options, the choice is purely yours to make! So how do you know which option is a good fit for you? Let’s take a look into the skilled-trade industry:

  1. Cost

One of the most noticeable differences in pursuing a degree or certification in a specific trade is the cost of the overall program. Universities and colleges require tuition, fees, housing, meal plans, and more costs into the overall cost of attendance. Trade schools, however, usually only require the cost of the actual content. There are also opportunities for scholarships or the ability to work alongside the school to gain on-site training and exposure while also earning money.

  1. Curriculum

While in trade school, individuals will only learn one subject matter; that which is specific to the trade they are pursuing. This means that there are no “filler” or “extracurricular” classes to accomplish to complete the program.

  1. Hands-On Experience

More often than not, those who pursue a trade school will also be required to have on-site experience throughout their learning. This means you are gaining real-life experience and training before even finishing your education!
